2011 Bayer Award in Basic Science Research 

 

 

Description:     The Bayer Award in Basic Science Research provides the opportunity for clinician-investigators who wish to initiate new studies or who are currently conducting promising basic research in the area of reproductive medicine to continue work on their project for two additional years. One Basic Science award is presented annually.

 

Eligibility:        As this award is intended to support early career development, the applicant must be in the last year of fellowship training at the time of application or should be junior faculty within five years of beginning full time faculty appointment. If not yet faculty, the individual should have reasonable assurance of such a position within a department of obstetrics and gynecology, as evidenced by a Letter of Endorsement from the Department Chair.

 

Terms:             Recommendation of the award recipients will be made by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee.

 

A letter from the Department Chair is required to confirm that the candidate will have an academic position during the period of the award and confirms that the requirement for 20 hours per week protected time will be honored. A second letter of recommendation from a research mentor or laboratory director is required as well.

 

The award amount is $110,000 for a period of 24 months; It will be paid out in two installments of $55,000 with the second installment of $55,000 contingent upon submission of a satisfactory interim report at the end of the first year of the study. The award is made to the candidate’s institution where the research is to be done. The funds may be used for salary and/or study expenses as identified in the budget submitted; however, indirect institutional costs should not be included and will not be covered. The application should include a detailed disclosure of current and pending funding with identification of the percentage of time committed. The award requires that a minimum of 20 hours per week be protected for the research project. One site visit is conducted during the first year of support; this visit helps the recipient trouble-shoot problems, monitors progress, and assures Bayer that the required protected time is being provided. A short progress report is required at six months after award receipt and a full report at year’s end. Recipients are encouraged to publish their results in a peer-reviewed journal

2011 Bayer Droegemueller Award in Clinical Research

 

Description:         The Bayer Droegemueller Award in Clinical Research is intended to support studies that are specifically focused on clinical research in obstetrics and gynecology. Its goal is to promote excellent clinical research by young investigators in the areas of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. This award is not intended for support of basic science research or animal studies. One Droegemueller award is made annually.

 

Eligibility:               As this award is intended to support early career development, the applicant must be in the last year of fellowship training at the time of application or should be junior faculty within five years of beginning full time faculty appointment. If not yet faculty, the individual should have reasonable assurance of such a position within a department of obstetrics and gynecology, as evidenced by a Letter of Endorsement from the Department Chair.

Terms:                   Recommendation of the award recipients will be made by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee. Proposals for randomized controlled trials should cover all elements recommended by the CONSORT guidelines (JAMA 1996;276:637-9.
