SGI President's Newsletter

It is my distinct pleasure to be addressing you for the first time as SGI President, and I know that I speak for our entire membership in acknowledging Les Myatt’s outstanding leadership during the past year. Those of you who attended our annual meeting in Orlando last month witnessed a superb combination of scientific discovery, collegial camaraderie and formative mentoring. This meeting proved to attract our largest-ever North American audience.  In my view it was a qualitative, as much as a quantitative, success. SGI members continue to create novel and consolidating scientific findings in women’s health, spanning the basic-to-clinical spectrum. Our 57th annual meeting in Orlando again provided an optimal environment for open engagement and inspiration of tomorrow’s leading scholars and practitioners.

Spring has sprung, for those of us who reside north of the equator, and many of us are in the midst of “spring-cleaning” processes. This is certainly true for our Society’s officers and staff, who are busy planning other productive and informative mechanisms to disseminate knowledge to improve the reproductive health of women globally. Among these is our journal, Reproductive Sciences, which has flourished under Hugh Taylor’s direction as editor-in-chief. We are anxiously awaiting the report this summer of its first official ‘impact factor’ under our new journal title. As Secretary-Treasurer Michael Ross presented at our annual business meeting, we are moving towards an all electronic format for Reproductive Sciences, and beginning this year membership fees will include a supplemental cost for those who wish to receive a print version. While we have managed to reduce administrative costs effectively, the vicissitudes of the current economy have necessitated an adjustment of our in-training dues, from $50 to $100 annually. I believe that you all will agree with me that this small increase, which includes a personal electronic subscription to Reproductive Sciences and recovery of some administrative costs, is a small price to pay for the access we provide to our in-training members.

You will be hearing from me again shortly with updates regarding new initiatives, plans for new SGI Summit conferences and our upcoming annual meeting sites. I look forward to working with you all to support another fruitful year of ‘gynecological investigation’ in its most inclusive interpretation.

Sincerely,
R Taylors Signature.GIF
