Faculty Positions in Computational Systems Biology/Bioinformatics
As part of a considerable expansion in the area of computational systems biology and bioinformatics, Wayne State University (WSU) is recruiting several new faculty at all levels. These positions are joint appointments between a newly created Department of Clinical and Translational Science (DCaTS) and other departments, including but not limited to the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics in the School of Medicine and the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering, Positions are with tenure or on a tenure track and rank will depend on the qualifications of the applicant. Appropriate start-up resources will be made available for each position to allow the candidate to establish a competitive externally funded research program.
The emphasis of DCaTS is to apply discoveries generated through research in the laboratory and in preclinical studies, to the development of trials and studies in humans. DCaTs will be housed in the new integrative Biomedical Research Building that is designed to encourage the development of novel methods and approaches to clinical and translational research, enhance informatics and technology resources, and improve training and mentoring. DCaTS provides a highly interactive environment with multiple opportunities for multidisciplinary basic and translational research.
These positions are available as part of an initiative to create a Center for Bioinformatics/Computational Systems Biology linking the Department of Computer Science and the School of Medicine (Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development) within DCaTS. These positions add to our recent hires in the same area, and complement very strong existing research groups within these departments.
Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain vigorous, externally funded research programs that integrate with existing computational, genomic, and personalized medicine efforts, as well as participate in education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
WSU is a large, comprehensive, tier I research institution with over 30,000 students and the largest single campus medical school on the continent. This unique opportunity is part of a Detroit renaissance, in which WSU’s investment in research is expected to yield substantial research-intensive growth through the next decade. This expansion includes a multi-institutional local initiative and a novel state-wide translational sciences initiative in partnership with Henry Ford Health Care System and other Michigan research universities and institutions. Additional information describing the university-wide effort can be found reviewing the links at http://cmmg.biosci.wayne.edu/resources/jobs.php
Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a statement of research interests and should be sent by email to carynvolpe@wayne.edu. The search will remain open until all positions have been filled.

Subject :Re:Postdoctoral Research Position, Dept of Neurology, University of Vermont
Dear Marilyn,
My name is Dr. John Ahenkorah, a PhD holder from the university of Leicester in the UK and now a lecturer at the university of Ghana Medical school, Ghana. I just read about this unique opportunity for postdoc training which I think fit well for my future training. My reseach area was in pre-eclampsia and worked on the differential expressions of keratins in preeclamptic and healthy placentae.
Do I stand the chance to aapply since I am coming from Africa?
Hope to hear from you.
